The City of Ottawa’s New Official Plan includes bold policy recommendations and aims to guide growth in Ottawa for the next 25 years. Following almost two years of pandemic disruption all corporate real estate organizations along with the Federal Government are assessing their return to the office strategies and workplace of the future.

Following a brief overview of the New Official Plan our panel will discuss the impact of a number of ongoing and evolving changes across the National Capital Region.

  • Continued growth through 2036 with a forecast population of 1,214,000, an increase of 267,000 (28%) from 2014.
  • The LRT stage-two project Trillium Line South extension will be first to commence operations in 2022, followed by the East extension in 2024 and the West extension in 2025.
  • Government of Canada’s long-term plan to increase the overall utilization rate of workplaces and reduce the overall inventory by up to 43%.
  • Many private organizations are adopting a hybrid 3/2 (in-office/ remote) work model which will have an impact of real estate requirements and the local services businesses that support them.
