HOK’s Mara Baum will present “The Business Case for Healthy, High Performance Buildings”. She will share her experience and actionable insights for the next wave of sustainability: a macro-look at the state of wellness in the built environment and quantitative research on the business case for human-centric design.  

The presentation will include observations regarding:

  • Building design strategies that could drive the most significant increases in workforce productivity and mindfulness.
  • Business case for high performance buildings based on improvements to employee productivity, retention, and health. 
  • Communicating the approach through the lens of employee benefit to tenants and landlords.

Mara Baum FAIA, LEED Fellow, WELL AP is HOK’s global Sustainable Design Leader for Health and Wellness.  A thought leader in both human and environmental sustainability, Mara brings insight into supporting healthier, happier and more productive building occupants and community members.  Mara’s focus on health extends to resilience, adaptation, and design for a carbon neutral built environment as well as strategies to support health and wellbeing in a post-COVID world. She also provides strategic leadership in sustainability to HOK’s healthcare practice.
